Microsoft is committed to making Copilot+ PCs more than a catchy marketing term. To achieve this, they continue to introduce new AI-driven features that enhance the capabilities of these next-generation computers. One of the biggest beneficiaries of these advancements is Windows Search.
Recently, Microsoft showcased how AI-powered Windows Search allows users to find files on their PC using natural language. Now, they’re taking it a step further—demonstrating that users can also search for images stored in the cloud as effortlessly.
We will have a Windows Search 2.0, thanks to the AI.
In the image that serves as an example, we see how the search introduced in text format (“Mountain Biking”) shows the result of several images housed in OneDrive where someone is shown using a mountain bike. In addition, if there were other files (such as PDFs) in the cloud or on our PCs that also fit that description, they would appear next to the images.
Microsoft is currently testing new features in the Windows Insider Dev and Beta channels, with the latest update (KB5050090, Build 26120.3073) introducing an AI-powered search enhancement. This upgraded search function is now limited to File Explorer, but Microsoft has confirmed that it will soon be available directly from the Windows 11 search bar.
Currently, this feature is only accessible on Copilot+ PCs equipped with Snapdragon processors. However, Microsoft plans to expand support to Intel and AMD processors, provided they include an NPU with at least 40 TOPs of processing power.
Currently, AI-enhanced search is limited to local searches and OneDrive, but Microsoft intends to release documentation that allows other providers—such as Google—to integrate with the system.
Innovations like Recall, Click-to-Do, and this enhanced search demonstrate how AI can make everyday tasks more efficient and seamless. Microsoft is focused on practical AI applications beyond just chatbots and image generation. While the race for AI dominance continues, Microsoft—especially with its partnership with OpenAI—seems well-positioned to shape the future. Windows 11 is evolving as a clear reflection of that vision.
