American users managed to avoid Spotify’s sweeping global price hikes in 2025 — but that grace period is officially over. Spotify has confirmed that it is increasing the price of its Individual Premium plan in the United States from $11.99 to $12.99 per month, effective with subscribers’ February billing cycle.

The company announced the change in a post on its Newsroom blog and included an example of the notification email now being sent to users. Spotify says the increase will help it continue delivering “a great experience,” though it did not point to any specific new features or improvements tied to the higher price.

In addition to the US, subscribers in Estonia and Latvia will also see their Premium prices rise.

A delayed but expected increase

The hike has been widely anticipated. In late 2025, Spotify raised prices across much of Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East, while the US was notably excluded. Given that American subscribers last saw a price increase in 2024 — when the Individual plan rose from $10.99 to $11.99 — many analysts viewed the US exemption as temporary.

With this latest change, Spotify continues a broader industry trend of steadily increasing subscription prices, even as competition among music streaming services remains intense. For US listeners, the question now is less whether prices will go up again, and more when.
