Microsoft Addresses Service Issues Affecting Copilot and Office Web Platform

Microsoft has once again shown its commitment to keeping its services running smoothly. While it’s true that some updates occasionally bring new issues, the company usually responds quickly, investigating the root cause and working toward fixes based on user feedback.

A new problem surfaced on August 20, 2025, preventing some users from accessing both Copilot and the Office.com website. According to reports highlighted by Bleeping Computer, Microsoft is already investigating the issue and gathering data to better understand it.

What’s happening

The disruption seems to affect users when connecting to Microsoft’s servers, particularly those in North America, though the full scope hasn’t been confirmed yet. Microsoft explained that the problem is tied to certain users trying to log into office.com and M365.cloud.microsoft. Engineers are currently analyzing telemetry data from the services involved and attempting to reproduce the failure internally.

Workarounds

Until a fix is in place, Microsoft recommends alternative ways to reach Copilot, such as visiting Copilot.microsoft.com directly or using the Microsoft 365 app.

Status

The company has classified this as a critical incident, tracked under the code MO1138499 in the Microsoft 365 admin center, which means it’s being treated with urgency due to its impact on user productivity.

For now, users will need to wait for Microsoft to provide more details and an official resolution. The good news is that the issue is already under active investigation, and updates should follow as soon as the cause is identified.
