The Pokémon Company has revealed that Pokémon Legends ZA is launching on October 16, 2025, and it’s coming to both the current Nintendo Switch and the next-gen Switch 2. If you pick up the game on the original console—whether physical or digital—you’ll have the option to upgrade to the enhanced version for Switch 2 by purchasing a separate upgrade pack.
This new installment takes players back to Kalos, the setting from Pokémon X and Y. A reimagined Lumiose City will serve as the heart of the adventure, where your character joins forces with the starter trio Totodile, Chikorita, and Tepig. As expected, the journey will include wide-open areas filled with wild Pokémon to discover and catch.
One of the standout new features is the “ZA Royale”, a battle-focused tournament that seems to add a competitive edge to the experience.
So far, Pokémon Legends ZA is the only confirmed mainline title set for release on the Switch 2. Meanwhile, Game Freak is also preparing updates for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, aiming to refine performance and visuals as they continue pushing the series forward on newer hardware.
Pokémon Company Schedules New Presentation for July 22, Teases Big Things Ahead
Alongside confirming the launch date for Pokémon Legends ZA, The Pokémon Company also announced a brand-new showcase set for July 22, 2025. Like past events, fans can tune in via the franchise’s official YouTube channel.
While the exact content of the presentation remains under wraps, the timing is stirring excitement. That’s because 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the series’ debut on the Game Boy—an era-defining release that sparked a global phenomenon still going strong today.
This upcoming showcase may give us a better idea of how The Pokémon Company plans to handle the early years of the Nintendo Switch 2, whether through brand-new entries or the long-awaited return of classics. One title in particular, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness from the GameCube era, has already been confirmed for a 2025 revival, though no specific date has been shared.
Speculation is swirling around the possibility of a first look at Generation 10, though nothing has been officially confirmed. With February 27, 2026, marking Pokémon’s 30th birthday, many fans believe that a major game release could coincide with the anniversary celebrations.
Whatever’s in store, July’s presentation is shaping up to be one fans won’t want to miss.
