Back when the first Nintendo Switch launched, fans were disappointed that modern Resident Evil titles only arrived via cloud streaming. That changes with the Switch 2, which has the power to run recent entries natively.
During Friday’s Nintendo Direct (12), Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village will launch for Switch 2 on February 27, 2026—the same day as the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, which will release simultaneously across all major platforms.
For now, Capcom has not announced whether the acclaimed Resident Evil 2, 3, or 4 remakes will also make the jump to Nintendo’s new hardware.
Resident Evil 7
Released in 2017 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Resident Evil 7 marked a turning point for the franchise. Built on Capcom’s new RE Engine, the game adopted a first-person perspective for the first time in the mainline series. This change, combined with a focus on atmosphere and survival horror, divided some longtime fans but ultimately reestablished Resident Evil’s horror roots.
It also introduced Ethan Winters as the new protagonist, facing the twisted Baker family in one of the most unsettling chapters the series has ever seen.
Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil Village continued Ethan’s story, shifting the tone toward action-heavy gameplay while retaining moments of intense horror. The gothic European setting, swarms of enemies, and larger-than-life villains made it both a direct sequel to RE7 and a throwback to the more action-oriented style of RE4 and RE5.
The game’s DLC expansion reintroduced the traditional third-person camera, giving fans another way to experience the game. That option will also be available in the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem.
For Nintendo fans, this marks the first time modern Resident Evil titles will be playable without cloud streaming, a huge step forward compared to the original Switch era. With Capcom committing to launch Requiem, RE7, and Village natively on Switch 2, it looks like the franchise is set to become a proper part of the console’s library moving forward.
