Samsung has provided an update on the performance of its semiconductor design business, confirming that development of the Exynos 2700 processor remains on schedule and is being positioned for potential inclusion in the future Galaxy S27 smartphone lineup.

The announcement was made during a presentation detailing the results of Samsung’s System LSI division, the business unit responsible for developing mobile processors, image sensors and other semiconductor technologies used across smartphones and consumer electronics.

Speaking at the event, System LSI President Park Yong-in said the division delivered one of the strongest quarterly performances in its history during the first quarter of 2026.

According to the executive, the unit achieved record sales during the period, reflecting solid demand for its semiconductor products. However, he cautioned that market conditions are expected to become more difficult in the coming months, with shifting industry dynamics and weaker demand likely to impact profitability throughout the remainder of the year.

Despite the strong revenue performance, Samsung expects the division to face financial pressure as competition intensifies across the global semiconductor market.

Exynos 2700 Development Remains on Track

A major focus of the presentation was Samsung’s next-generation flagship mobile processor, the Exynos 2700.

Park confirmed that development of the chipset is progressing according to schedule and has not encountered any significant setbacks. The processor is being designed to power future premium Galaxy smartphones.

“We are developing the Exynos 2700 without setbacks, aiming for its inclusion in flagship models,” Park said during the briefing.

Industry expectations suggest the chipset could be considered for use in the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27 Plus, which are expected to launch in 2027. Before any final decision is made, the processor will undergo evaluation by Samsung’s Mobile Experience (MX) division, which oversees the company’s smartphone business.

While the standard and Plus variants may adopt the Exynos 2700, higher-end models in the Galaxy S27 family could continue to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon processors in certain markets, following Samsung’s recent product strategy.

New Training Program for Young People

Alongside its technology roadmap, Samsung also unveiled a new workforce development initiative called the Youth Hope Learning Center.

The program is designed to provide vocational training opportunities for young people living outside South Korea’s major metropolitan areas. Samsung plans to enroll approximately 1,000 participants in 2026.

Courses will cover a range of fields, including information technology, electronics manufacturing, refrigeration systems, digital marketing, baking and heavy equipment operation. The company said the initiative aims to improve employment opportunities and support skills development among younger generations.

Although Samsung has acknowledged near-term challenges facing its semiconductor operations, the continued development of the Exynos 2700 highlights the company’s commitment to strengthening its position in the mobile chipset market.

The success of the upcoming processor could play a key role in Samsung’s efforts to expand its semiconductor ecosystem while enhancing the competitiveness of future Galaxy flagship devices.

Rumours surrounding the Galaxy S27 series have already suggested significant upgrades, including improvements to battery technology and overall performance, making the Exynos 2700 one of the most closely watched projects within Samsung’s mobile division.
