Microsoft Teams has been one of the company’s priority applications in recent months, with Microsoft rolling out numerous updates and deeper Copilot integrations to make the platform more capable and efficient for workplace collaboration.
Microsoft appears to be preparing a new feature for Teams that will display your location when you are in the office—and the company has explained why it’s making this change.
Teams will show your location when connected to the office Wi-Fi
Teams has become one of Microsoft’s most widely used tools due to its central role in modern work communication. And soon, the platform will introduce a rather unusual new feature. When a user connects their device to a company Wi-Fi network, Teams will be able to show which office building they are in.
Microsoft says the purpose of this update is to reduce confusion about where employees are physically located, especially in large organisations with multiple buildings or campuses. By knowing the exact location, coworkers can coordinate more easily and avoid misunderstandings.
However, not everyone is enthusiastic about the change. Some employees feel it may make it harder to find a quiet space without being visibly tracked through the platform.
According to early information, this new capability is expected to roll out globally for both Windows and Mac sometime in December 2025. It forms part of Microsoft’s broader push to enhance the productivity and transparency of Teams users.
More features on the way
This location-based update is not the only improvement arriving in Teams. Microsoft is also preparing:
- Custom keyboard shortcut options
- Additional Copilot-powered features
- Workflow enhancements aimed at simplifying daily tasks
Teams continues to grow as Microsoft refines it into a more intelligent and versatile communication hub for businesses.
