Another former Xbox exclusive is making its way to the PlayStation 5. This time, it’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Ninja Theory’s visually striking and emotionally intense follow-up that blends psychological horror with fresh faces in Senua’s continuing journey.
The newly announced Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Enhanced will feature improved visuals and refined gameplay. The update will be available at no extra cost for players on Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Xbox app and Steam), and will also come verified for Steam Deck users.
The enhanced version launches on August 12 across all current-gen platforms—including, for the first time, PlayStation 5, with performance upgrades tailored for the PS5 Pro.
Microsoft has also confirmed a Deluxe Edition for PS5, which bundles Hellblade II Enhanced, a remastered version of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, and the original soundtrack from the first game. Players who already own Senua’s Sacrifice on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version at no cost.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Enhanced gets 60 FPS mode
Hellblade II stirred plenty of conversation at launch—especially over its decision to run at just 30 frames per second on Xbox Series X. At the time, Ninja Theory’s visual effects director, Mark Slater-Tinsdill, told German outlet GamePro that the limitation was intentional, aimed at delivering a more “cinematic” feel.
But that’s changing. With the upcoming release of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Enhanced, a performance mode will be introduced, allowing the game to run at 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X. However, Xbox Series S users won’t see the same upgrade—on that console, the game will remain capped at 30 FPS.
For PC players, the enhanced edition will include a “very high” graphics setting to push visual quality even further. Ninja Theory also confirmed that they’ve invested effort in fine-tuning the game for Steam Deck, aiming to deliver a solid experience on Valve’s portable platform.
In addition to visual and performance upgrades, the game’s photo mode has received an overhaul. It now includes expanded tools, such as a new “movement” tab for more dynamic and custom video captures.
One notable gameplay feature is the return of the “Dark Rot” mechanic from the original Hellblade. This time, it’s introduced as an optional game mode. Every defeat brings Senua closer to being consumed by the rot, and if it reaches her head, your progress is wiped out, forcing a complete restart.
