After months of speculation, it’s now officially confirmed — AMD’s upcoming Zen 6 Ryzen processors will continue to use the AM5 socket.
While earlier leaks hinted at AM5 compatibility, ASUS has now made it official. The confirmation comes from the product launch of the ASUS B850M AYW GAMING OC WIFI7 W motherboard, part of the AMD 800-series chipset lineup, unveiled in China on October 10, 2025.
In the promotional image for the new motherboard, the text “Zen 6 Supported” can be clearly seen printed near the centre-left — confirming that Zen 6 Ryzen CPUs will run on AM5 motherboards.
What This Means for Users
This announcement settles months of uncertainty among PC builders and enthusiasts wondering whether AMD would switch sockets for its next CPU generation. With AM5 confirmed, users investing in current AM5 motherboards can expect forward compatibility when Zen 6 launches.
There’s still no official statement about whether Zen 6 will also support existing AMD 600-series motherboards, but based on AMD’s strong history of cross-generation support — notably the AM4 platform, which spanned Ryzen 1000 through 5000 series — many expect the same level of compatibility to continue.
AMD Zen 6 Release Date
AMD’s Zen 6 Ryzen CPUs are anticipated to debut in late 2026, following the company’s regular release cadence. More details on performance, architecture, and supported features are expected to surface closer to launch.
