Vivo to Launch Android 16-Based OriginOS 6 Globally, Preview Program Coming to India

By Aayush

Vivo is preparing a major software shift with the introduction of OriginOS 6, its next-generation custom Android skin built on Android 16. Scheduled to launch in China on October 10, the new OS will make its global debut on October 15, including in India.

This marks a big milestone, as OriginOS has previously been exclusive to China, while global users of vivo and iQOO devices have relied on Funtouch OS.

OriginOS 6 Debuts with Flagship Devices

The vivo X300 series and iQOO 15 lineup will be the first smartphones to run OriginOS 6 out of the box. These flagship launches are expected to showcase the full potential of the new operating system with features tailored for Android 16.

While Vivo has not yet shared a detailed rollout roadmap for older devices, more information is expected next month.

OriginOS 6 Preview Program in India

Ahead of the global debut, both vivo India and iQOO India have confirmed the launch of the OriginOS 6 Preview Program for local users.

Registration Date: Opens on September 29.

Eligible Devices: The exact list is not yet revealed. However, vivo’s use of the hashtag #vivoXSeries strongly suggests that the preview will initially be limited to the X Series smartphones. Other devices are likely to join later.

For iQOO: Shankar Singh, DGM of Product Management at iQOO India, confirmed that the iQOO 13 will be the first iQOO device to receive the OriginOS 6 preview.

This marks the first time that OriginOS will be available to users outside China, representing a unification in vivo’s software strategy. Global users, especially in India, will soon get a hands-on experience with an interface previously reserved for the Chinese market.

The preview program will give early adopters a chance to test features and provide feedback before the wider rollout.

More details about registration, eligible devices, and the feature set of OriginOS 6 are expected to be revealed on September 29. With its global release, Vivo aims to offer a more seamless and consistent software experience across regions.
