AMD has officially rolled out FSR Redstone, a major update to its machine-learning-powered upscaling technology. The new version introduces several advanced rendering features, but remains exclusive to current-generation Radeon GPUs, including the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9060 XT.
As with the earlier rollout of FSR 4, Redstone does not support older AMD graphics cards, limiting access to RDNA 4-class hardware.
Ray Regeneration Brings Cleaner Ray-Traced Effects
One of the headline additions in FSR Redstone is Ray Regeneration, a feature designed to improve ray-traced lighting effects before upscaling and frame interpolation are applied. According to AMD, the technology reduces visual noise in ray-traced reflections and shadows, resulting in cleaner and more stable lighting effects.

Independent testing by Gamers Nexus demonstrates noticeable improvements in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, currently the only title supporting Ray Regeneration. Reflections on water surfaces and polished flooring appear sharper and more consistent compared to standard rendering.
Interestingly, the improvements are more subtle in AMD’s own comparison footage shared by Jack Huynh, AMD’s SVP and General Manager of Computing and Graphics, where native 4K output closely matches Redstone-enhanced visuals.
AMD states that Ray Regeneration will be expanded to additional titles in future updates.
Expanded FSR Upscaling and Frame Generation Support
FSR Redstone also enhances AMD’s Frame Generation and upscaling stack, which uses generative AI to create intermediary frames and boost performance. The latest Frame Generation update now supports 32 games, according to AMD’s official compatibility list.
Beyond that, general FSR Redstone support now extends to more than 200 games, including high-profile releases such as Black Myth: Wukong and ARC Raiders. This significantly broadens Redstone’s reach, even if some of its more advanced features remain limited in availability.
Radiance Caching Coming in 2026
The final major feature included in Redstone is Radiance Caching, a lighting technique that predicts how light behaves in a scene to enhance ray tracing efficiency and quality. While AMD has confirmed the feature as part of the Redstone package, no games currently support it.
According to AMD, Radiance Caching is expected to begin appearing in games starting in 2026, making it more of a long-term investment than an immediate upgrade.
How to Get FSR Redstone
FSR Redstone is delivered through AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.12.1, which is now available for download from AMD’s official website. Users will need a compatible Radeon GPU for the new features to activate.
While Redstone introduces meaningful technical upgrades, its limited hardware support and uneven feature rollout mean its full impact may not be felt until more games adopt the technology over the coming year.
