Mozilla has announced that Firefox for iOS 26 will introduce a new feature called “Shake to Summarize,” allowing users to quickly generate an AI summary of a webpage by simply shaking their iPhone.
The feature taps into the on-device language models behind Apple Intelligence, but it isn’t limited to the latest iPhone models. On older devices without Apple Intelligence support, Firefox will instead use Mozilla’s cloud-based AI, which processes the page and sends a summary back to the phone.
Users can trigger the feature in three ways:
- Shake the device
- Tap the thunderbolt icon in the address bar
- Open the menu (three dots) and select Summarize Page
To prevent accidental activations, the feature can be turned off in settings. It also only works on pages with 5,000 words or fewer.
With this rollout, Firefox becomes one of the first major third-party apps to integrate with Apple Intelligence. The feature begins rolling out this week for English-speaking users in the U.S., with additional languages and regions planned in the future.
