Google has shared new details about Gemini Intelligence, its upcoming AI suite for Android 17 designed to automate tasks across apps and services. While the feature was introduced as one of the platform’s flagship additions, the official requirements suggest that support will be limited to a small group of high-end devices.

The information appeared in technical notes published on Google’s Gemini Intelligence documentation pages, outlining both hardware and software conditions needed for compatibility.

According to Google, devices must meet several demanding requirements in order to run Gemini Intelligence. Smartphones and tablets will need:

  • At least 12 GB of RAM
  • Support for Gemini Nano v3 or newer on-device AI models
  • A flagship-level processor
  • Compliance with Android 17 performance standards
  • A minimum of five years of Android updates
  • At least six years of security updates

The requirements indicate that the feature will primarily target premium devices released in 2026 and beyond.

Limited Device Compatibility Expected

Google has not yet published an official compatibility list for Gemini Intelligence itself. However, documentation tied to the Gemini Nano v3 prompts API already references several supported devices, most of which are recent flagship models.

Among the listed devices are:

  • Pixel 10 series models
  • Galaxy S26 lineup devices
  • OnePlus 15
  • Find X9 Pro
  • Honor Magic 8 Pro
  • vivo X300 Pro

Several tablets from Lenovo and gaming-focused devices are also included.

The company notes that regional availability and language support may vary once Gemini Intelligence begins rolling out.

AI Designed for Task Automation

Gemini Intelligence is intended to function as an AI agent integrated directly into Android. Beyond conversational assistance similar to the standard Gemini experience, the system is designed to complete tasks automatically across apps.

Google demonstrated examples where the AI can interpret a shopping list, identify products, populate a cart on an online marketplace, and prepare the order for user confirmation.

The company is positioning the feature as a deeper integration of AI into everyday mobile workflows rather than a standalone chatbot.

Android 17 Focuses Heavily on AI

Gemini Intelligence forms a central part of Google’s broader AI strategy for Android 17. The operating system is also expected to introduce expanded content creation tools, new emoji customization systems, and additional AI-powered productivity features.

The strict hardware requirements, however, suggest that many devices released only a few years ago may not support the full experience, even within the premium segment.
