At CES 2025, AMD unveiled new additions to its notebook CPU lineup, including the Ryzen 9 9000HX series, which will coexist with the Ryzen AI 300 “Strix Point” chips. One standout in the lineup is the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, featuring AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology. According to AMD, this processor is positioned as the “fastest mobile CPU in the world” for gaming and creative workloads.

Key Features:

  • 3D V-Cache Advantage: The Ryzen 9 9955HX3D boasts 144 MB of cache, offering a significant edge over the standard Ryzen 9 9955HX, which lacks the stacked cache technology.
  • Clock Speeds: Both models feature a maximum boost clock of 5.4 GHz, which is 300 MHz lower than the desktop Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
  • Power Efficiency: With a TDP of 54W, the addition of the 64 MB 3D V-Cache does not officially increase power consumption. However, real-world scenarios may reveal slight variations.

The Ryzen 9 9955HX3D mirrors the benefits seen in its desktop counterpart, delivering exceptional gaming and multitasking performance while maintaining efficiency—a critical factor for mobile devices.

New lineup offers high-end specifications for notebooks

Another addition to AMD’s high-end mobile CPU family is the Ryzen 9 9850HX. It boasts 12 cores, 24 threads, a boost clock of 5.2 GHz, 76 MB of cache, and a 54W TDP.

As mentioned earlier, these Ryzen 9 9000HX chips will launch alongside the Ryzen AI 300 series, though they are designed for premium, high-performance laptops. Unlike the Strix Point models, however, the Ryzen 9 9000HX processors lack the NPU (Neural Processing Unit) for accelerating AI tasks.

AMD plans to release the Ryzen 9 9000HX processors in the first half of 2025, though they didn’t share any specific performance data during their announcement.
