Copilot keeps getting smarter. Over the past year, Microsoft’s assistant has gained new tools, smoother performance, and even a more lifelike avatar with facial expressions to make interactions feel more natural. Now, the company is preparing its next big leap — video generation — powered by Sora 2, OpenAI’s latest model.

According to a report from Testing Catalog, Microsoft has begun internal tests that integrate Sora 2 directly into Copilot. Until now, creating AI-generated videos required using OpenAI’s standalone tools, but this upcoming update could bring that capability straight into Windows and web versions of Copilot.

The evolution makes sense. First came text-to-image generation, which allowed users to turn written prompts into art and concept designs. Now, text-to-video is becoming the next creative frontier — and OpenAI’s Sora 2 has already shown it can produce highly detailed, realistic clips from short descriptions.

In Copilot, this function appears under the “Composer” menu, joining other creative options such as image generation and quizzes. Early tests suggest free users may be limited to one video per day, while paid subscribers could unlock unlimited access — a model similar to other Microsoft AI features.

For content creators, marketers, and educators, this new tool could open up faster ways to produce visual material directly from their workflow, without switching apps or paying for third-party tools.

More Updates Inside Copilot

The same test build also introduces a redesigned sidebar. The “Gallery” section has been renamed “Imagine,” while a brand-new “Shopping” tab has appeared. This new area seems focused on managing products and orders, hinting that Microsoft may be exploring tighter links between Copilot and online commerce — possibly through its emerging “Copilot Merchants” program.

Microsoft hasn’t shared an official release date for these additions, but the company’s ongoing push to expand Copilot suggests they could arrive in a future update soon. Between creative tools like Sora 2 video generation and new productivity features, Copilot continues to grow from a simple assistant into a full digital workspace.
