Sony has unveiled a new cinematic trailer for Ghost of Yōtei, the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive from its in-house studios. Released on Thursday (18), the CGI trailer showcases the journey of the protagonist Atsu as he sets out on a path of revenge.
With visuals that rival a feature film, the video emphasizes the darker and more dramatic tone of this sequel to Ghost of Tsushima (2020).
Narrated by Atsu himself, the trailer revisits fragments of his painful past, his bond with a wolf, and a confrontation with the figure responsible for the suffering of his loved ones.
At one point, he declares:
What we endure makes us who we are. But a ghost chooses what to become…”—a reflection that ties directly into the mythic and legendary undertones that also defined the first game.
Set 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, the new title takes place on the island of Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido) in the 17th century. Rather than Mongol invaders, Atsu faces the assassins who destroyed his family.
While the story does not directly connect with Jin Sakai’s tale, it retains familiar elements such as stealth mechanics, samurai-inspired combat, and a rich Japanese atmosphere that links both entries in spirit.
Ghost of Yōtei will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025.
