Rumors Hint at New ‘Super’ Variants in Nvidia’s Blackwell Lineup

By Aayush

Nvidia’s latest GPU release, the RTX 5060, is set to arrive this May, but it appears the Blackwell series has more surprises in store. Fresh speculation suggests that Nvidia is preparing to launch “Super” versions of its upcoming cards, specifically the GeForce RTX 5080 Super and RTX 5070 Super.

What’s really turning heads is the reported increase in video memory. According to leaks, the RTX 5080 Super could be packing a hefty 24 GB of VRAM—an 8 GB bump over the standard model. The RTX 5070 Super is also rumored to ship with 18 GB, 4 GB more than its base counterpart.

This kind of memory boost wasn’t seen in previous generations like the RTX 40 or RTX 20 families, with the exception of the RTX 2060 Super, which added just 2 GB more than the original.

The key to this jump might lie in Nvidia’s use of 3 GB GDDR7 memory modules—a setup similar to what’s found in the mobile version of the RTX 5090, which also carries 24 GB. If true, this would mark the first time Nvidia’s desktop cards adopt this module configuration.

GPUS RTX 50 Super should still take a long time to arrive

Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5060 is set to land in May, but the Blackwell series might just be getting started. According to fresh rumors, Nvidia is working on “Super” variants—specifically the GeForce RTX 5080 Super and RTX 5070 Super.

What’s catching attention this time is the rumored memory configuration. The RTX 5080 Super is said to feature 24 GB of VRAM, which would be an 8 GB boost over the standard version. Meanwhile, the RTX 5070 Super could launch with 18 GB, offering 4 GB more than the base model.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a 24 GB RTX 5080 has surfaced. A leak from a board partner previously revealed a version of the standard RTX 5080 carrying the same amount of memory. That raises the question: could this be the Super variant in disguise, or was Nvidia originally planning a 24 GB base model and later scrapped the idea?

Unlike previous GPU generations, such memory increases between base and Super variants are rare. Only the RTX 2060 Super saw a notable jump, adding 2 GB more than its standard edition. These new rumors also point to the use of 3 GB GDDR7 modules, similar to what’s seen in the mobile RTX 5090. If confirmed, this would mark the first time such modules appear in a desktop lineup.

So far, the leaks mention only the existence of the RTX 50 Super series—no specs, no performance numbers, and no official launch timeline. Based on Nvidia’s usual cadence, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the RTX 5080 Super and RTX 5070 Super announced around CES 2026, roughly a year after the first Blackwell cards debut.

Until then, all eyes are on the RTX 5060, scheduled to arrive this May, as users wait to see how it performs in the ever-competitive mid-range space.
