Samsung to Launch AI Tool in One UI 8 to Detect Voice Phishing Calls

By Aayush

Samsung has announced a new feature coming to One UI 8 aimed at identifying voice phishing (vishing) attempts using artificial intelligence. The tool will debut exclusively in South Korea, at least for now.

This feature is designed to combat a growing type of scam where fraudsters impersonate trusted individuals or companies over the phone to steal sensitive information. With AI-generated voice cloning on the rise, these types of attacks have become even more convincing—and more dangerous.

How the Scam Detection Tool Works

When a call comes in, Samsung’s on-device AI will analyze the caller’s voice in real time. If it detects speech patterns linked to known scam tactics, the phone will vibrate and display an alert on-screen, warning the user of a possible phishing attempt.

Importantly, Samsung confirms that all of this processing happens locally on the device, ensuring that no data is sent to external servers.

The feature will rely on data provided by South Korea’s National Police Agency and the National Institute of Scientific Investigation, helping the AI recognize threats more accurately.

Not to Be Confused with Samsung’s Spam Filter

Samsung’s dialer app already includes a tool to detect spam calls, including possible fraud, based on number history. That system is available in countries like Brazil and works by showing a warning before the call is answered.

In contrast, this new feature actively monitors conversations during the call, offering an extra layer of protection if the number bypasses the initial spam filter.

Limited to South Korea for Now

Currently, Samsung has no plans to release this tool outside of South Korea. Since it depends on local law enforcement databases, it may take time before similar functionality becomes available in other regions.

One UI 8 Launch Timeline

In addition to the AI call protection feature, Samsung confirmed that the stable version of One UI 8 will begin rolling out in September. Compatible smartphones and tablets already on the market will start receiving the update next month.
