Spotify has acknowledged a new issue affecting its Android app, which can cause it to freeze or crash when connecting to certain Wi-Fi networks. The company confirmed on Wednesday (Oct. 22) that it is actively investigating the problem and working on a fix.
In an official post on the Spotify Community forum, the streaming platform said it has received multiple reports from users—particularly those using Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices—who are unable to use the app while on Wi-Fi.
“The Spotify app stops responding, hangs, or closes when connecting to certain Wi-Fi networks,” the company wrote. “The problem does not occur when using mobile data.”
Spotify’s engineering team is already testing solutions, and an update to address the issue should be released soon through the Google Play Store.
Users Report Freezes and Crashes on Samsung and Pixel Devices
Several users have shared their experiences in Spotify’s community thread. One Pixel 9 owner from Australia reported that the app becomes completely unusable when connecting to their home Wi-Fi network.
“It opens, then freezes and closes. As soon as I switch to mobile data, it works fine. My Wi-Fi is stable, and this only started happening recently,” they wrote.
Another user from the U.K., who owns a Galaxy S25 and a Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, described similar symptoms, saying that Spotify slows down before displaying an error that the app “isn’t responding.”
The user added that the issue began after updating to the latest Android version and seems to specifically affect Spotify version 9.0.84.1340. It’s still unclear whether the bug is related to Samsung’s One UI 8, Android 16, or a combination of both.
For now, Spotify recommends using mobile data or temporarily switching networks until the fix becomes available.
