Spotify is broadening its platform beyond music and audio streaming, introducing new features that strengthen its position as a multi-format content hub. On Wednesday, April 15, the company announced the rollout of physical book purchases directly within the app, marking a new step in its push toward a more comprehensive user experience.

The feature, first revealed earlier this year, is now available to users in the United States and the United Kingdom. It has been developed in partnership with Bookshop.org, an organisation known for connecting readers with independent bookstores.

The new functionality allows users to discover books through Spotify’s interface and purchase physical copies without leaving the app. The move aims to connect audiobook listening and digital discovery with traditional reading formats, giving users greater flexibility in how they engage with content.

Currently, the feature is available on Android devices, with support for iOS expected to roll out in selected markets in the coming days.

Spotify’s strategy reflects a broader effort to integrate different forms of media consumption. By combining audiobooks, digital tools, and now physical book sales, the company is positioning itself as a central destination for both listening and reading.

Page Match and Audiobook Tools Get Upgrades

Alongside the new shopping feature, Spotify has expanded its Page Match tool. This function allows users to switch seamlessly between audiobooks and physical copies, helping maintain reading continuity across formats.

Page Match is now available in more than 30 additional languages beyond English, including French, German, and Swedish, making it accessible to a wider global audience.

The company has also extended access to its Audiobooks Recap feature. Previously limited to iOS, it is now available on Android devices as well. The tool provides personalized summaries based on the user’s last listening point, helping them quickly resume their progress.

According to Owen Smith, Spotify’s global head of audiobooks, the updates are designed to simplify how users discover, consume, and return to books across formats.

The latest additions highlight Spotify’s ongoing shift from a music-focused service to a broader content ecosystem. By combining recommendations, audiobooks, and now physical book purchases, the platform continues to expand its role in users’ daily media habits.

“Whether it’s discovering a book the same way you would find a song or podcast on Spotify, listening to the audiobook on the go, using Page Match to switch to a physical copy at home, or resuming reading with a Recap, we’re making it easier for people to engage with books, while supporting the growth of authors and publishers along the way,” said Owen Smith, global head of audiobooks at Spotify, in a statement.
