The change has attracted increased attention as August comes to an end, a period when Spotify users often share their monthly listening results across social media.
Several users have taken to Reddit to report that their monthly listening information has been replaced by weekly statistics. Some users claim the change appeared roughly a month ago, while others say they can still access the previous monthly format.
The issue has also prompted complaints from some Xbox One X users, although it is unclear whether the console is directly affected by the change.
What Happened to Spotify’s Monthly Statistics?
Spotify previously used its Time Capsule feature to provide users with a monthly overview of their listening habits.
The feature gave listeners a way to see which artists and songs they had played most frequently during the month. It also served as a smaller, recurring version of Spotify Wrapped, the company’s annual listening summary that has become a major social media event.
Spotify introduced a new weekly listening statistics feature in November last year. However, the company did not publicly explain whether the introduction would eventually replace or affect the existing monthly data.
With some users now seeing only weekly statistics, uncertainty remains over whether Spotify has intentionally removed the monthly feature or is testing a change to its statistics system.
Spotify has not publicly confirmed the reason for the change. A request for comment was also sent to the company, but no response had been received at the time of publication.
How Can Spotify Users Track Monthly Listening Data?
Users who want to maintain a record of their listening habits can turn to third-party tracking services.
Last.fm is one of the most established options. After connecting a Spotify account, the service can record songs played on the platform and build a history of listening activity.
However, there is an important limitation. Last.fm cannot recover Spotify listening data from before the account was connected. Users who link their accounts now will only begin building a new record from that point onward.
Other third-party services may also offer monthly listening summaries, while some competing music platforms provide their own periodic statistics.
For Spotify users who regularly share their monthly listening habits, using an external tracker could provide a more consistent record if the platform’s monthly statistics are unavailable.
