Microsoft has unveiled a new direction for its gaming division through a statement titled “We Are Xbox,” signaling a shift in focus back to the Xbox identity. The message, signed by executives Asha Sharma and Matt Booty, outlines a renewed vision for the platform and a series of commitments to improve the user experience.

The announcement reflects an effort to address ongoing criticism of fragmentation across services and devices, while repositioning Xbox as the central pillar of Microsoft’s gaming strategy.

In the statement, Xbox acknowledges shortcomings in its current ecosystem and promises changes designed to make the platform more accessible, personalized, and cohesive. Planned improvements include adjustments to pricing models and updates to core features such as search, content discovery, social tools, and recommendation systems.

The company also aims to strengthen integration across console, PC, mobile, and cloud platforms, with the goal of delivering a more consistent experience regardless of where users play.

Hardware Roadmap and Windows Integration

On the hardware side, Microsoft confirmed it will continue supporting its current-generation consoles while preparing its next system, internally referred to as Project Helix. The upcoming platform is expected to bridge console and PC gaming more closely.

At the same time, Windows is set to play a larger role in the Xbox ecosystem. This shift builds on recent developments such as the introduction of Xbox-focused interfaces on PC, reinforcing the company’s push toward a unified gaming environment.

Game Pass and Cloud Gaming Plans

Microsoft also outlined plans to refine its subscription services. The company intends to strengthen Xbox Game Pass with a more sustainable and transparent model, while continuing to expand cloud gaming capabilities.

The goal is to make cloud-based play feel more responsive and reliable, even on lower-cost devices such as entry-level televisions and hardware.

In addition, Xbox signaled that it will revisit key strategic areas, including exclusivity policies, release timing, and the role of artificial intelligence within its ecosystem.
