AMD is showing signs of gaining ground against Nvidia in the consumer graphics card market, with Radeon GPUs taking several top positions in recent sales rankings from the US and Germany.

Nvidia has maintained a strong position in the graphics card market for years, particularly among PC gamers. However, recent sales figures suggest that AMD’s RDNA 4 lineup is attracting more buyers, helped by competitive pricing and the limited availability of some Nvidia models.

Radeon RX 9070 XT Leads Amazon’s GPU Rankings

Amazon’s current best-selling GPU rankings are particularly notable for AMD. The Radeon RX 9070 XT remains at the top of the list, despite the fact that some versions of the card are selling well above AMD’s original launch price.

A Gigabyte RX 9070 XT is currently listed at around $749, compared with the card’s $599 launch MSRP.

AMD occupies several other positions in the top 10, including another Radeon RX 9070 XT model from Asus, an ASRock Radeon RX 9070 and an Asus Radeon RX 9060 XT.

Nvidia still has a strong presence in the ranking, with four cards making the top 10. The company’s entries include the GeForce RTX 5070, RTX 5060 Ti and two RTX 5080 models.

The balance between the two companies is notable because Nvidia has traditionally dominated retail GPU rankings.

AMD Performs Even Better at German Retailer

AMD’s position appears stronger in Germany, according to sales data from German retailer Mindfactory.

Figures highlighted by hardware market analyst TechEpiphany show AMD accounting for nearly 56% of GPUs sold during the measured period, while Nvidia held approximately 40%.

The Radeon RX 9070 XT was reportedly the most popular model by a significant margin, with the RX 9060 also performing strongly.

However, Mindfactory’s figures should be viewed in context. The retailer has historically recorded stronger AMD sales than many other stores and has frequently promoted Radeon products through discounts, bundles and other offers.

That makes the data useful as an indicator of consumer demand, but it should not be treated as a complete picture of the global GPU market.

Price and Availability Could Be Driving AMD Sales

One of the biggest factors behind AMD’s recent retail performance could be pricing.

Graphics card prices have risen across the market amid ongoing pressure on memory supply, making buyers more sensitive to the cost of new GPUs. AMD’s competing products are often available at lower prices than Nvidia’s alternatives, giving Radeon cards an advantage for shoppers focused on value.

Availability may also be playing an important role.

Recent Amazon listings show several AMD graphics cards available to purchase, while Nvidia’s selection is considerably more limited. At one point, only a Gigabyte RTX 5080 was readily available among the highlighted Nvidia cards, with a price of around $1,599 even after a small discount.

When consumers cannot find the Nvidia model they want at a reasonable price, a similarly positioned Radeon card can become an attractive alternative.

Nvidia Still Dominates the Broader PC Market

Despite AMD’s strong showing in these retail figures, it would be premature to suggest that Nvidia has lost its overall dominance.

Steam’s hardware survey continues to show a substantial advantage for Nvidia among PC gamers. Nvidia GPUs are present in nearly 73% of systems represented in the survey, while AMD accounts for roughly 18.6%.

That gap remains enormous compared with the much closer sales figures seen at Amazon and Mindfactory.

The recent numbers nevertheless indicate that AMD’s RDNA 4 generation is gaining traction with buyers. Competitive pricing, product availability and Nvidia’s increasingly expensive high-end offerings could all be contributing to that shift.

For now, there is no clear evidence of a major change in Nvidia’s overall market leadership. However, AMD’s growing presence in retail sales suggests that buyers are increasingly willing to choose Radeon when the price and availability make the decision easier.
