A post briefly published on GitHub has unintentionally revealed details about GPT-5, the next generation of OpenAI’s language models. Although the post was quickly taken down, screenshots and archived versions are already circulating online.
According to the leaked information, GPT-5 will bring major improvements in areas like logical reasoning and prompt efficiency-meaning the model will require shorter inputs to understand and complete complex tasks. The update also introduces four distinct variants of the model, each designed for different use cases:
- GPT-5: The main version, optimized for complex, multi-step reasoning tasks.
- GPT-5-Mini: A lightweight, more cost-efficient version aimed at business applications.
- GPT-5-Nano: Prioritizes speed and low latency, ideal for real-time responses.
- GPT-5-Chat: Built for multimodal interactions and advanced business-focused conversations.
If OpenAI follows its usual rollout pattern, GPT-5 will likely be made available first to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, while the free version of the chatbot may run on GPT-5-Mini or GPT-5-Nano.
Official Launch Set for Today
Despite the early leak, the official unveiling of GPT-5 is still scheduled for Thursday, the 7th of August, during a live broadcast by OpenAI.
CEO Sam Altman has confirmed that this event will run longer than previous ones-expected to last around an hour-and will include live demonstrations of the new models.
You can tune in and watch the full presentation live starting at 1:00 PM on OpenAI’s official YouTube channel.
