Intel could be preparing a new, more affordable version of its Arc G3 processor platform for handheld gaming devices, according to a recent leak. The rumored chip would make significant changes to the CPU and graphics configuration used by Intel’s current Arc G3 lineup, potentially allowing manufacturers to build cheaper portable gaming systems.
The Arc G3 family was introduced with Panther Lake CPU cores and Xe3 graphics, targeting the growing market for handheld gaming PCs. While the existing designs emphasize a balance between performance and power efficiency, the rumored variant appears to take a different approach.
According to well-known leaker Jaykihn, Intel is developing an Arc G3 configuration with a simplified hybrid architecture and fewer graphics resources.
The rumored processor would reportedly feature four P-Cores alongside four LPE cores, giving the chip eight CPU cores in total.
The configuration would differ from Intel’s existing Arc G3 designs by reducing the emphasis on traditional efficiency cores while maintaining low-power processing capabilities through the LPE cores.
This could allow Intel to prioritize performance in the workloads that matter most for handheld gaming, while keeping the overall chip design relatively compact.
The biggest change could come on the GPU side.
The rumored Arc G3 variant is said to include just four Xe3 graphics cores. That would give it considerably less graphics capability than the more powerful Arc G3 configurations already announced by Intel.
For gaming handhelds, however, the reduction could make sense. A smaller GPU can reduce power consumption, heat output and manufacturing costs, potentially allowing manufacturers to offer devices at lower prices.
The resulting chip would be aimed less at competing with high-end handheld PCs and more at delivering a balanced experience for entry-level and mainstream portable gaming devices.
The handheld gaming PC market has expanded rapidly, but many of the most powerful devices remain relatively expensive. A lower-cost Arc G3 platform could give Intel an opportunity to compete in a segment where manufacturers need to balance performance, battery life and retail price.
Reducing the number of Xe3 graphics cores could also help manufacturers design smaller cooling systems and potentially extend battery life, depending on the final power characteristics of the chip.
Intel has not officially confirmed the rumored configuration, so its specifications and positioning should be treated as unconfirmed for now.
MSI and Acer are already working on Arc G3 handhelds
Intel unveiled the Arc G3 platform in May, but the chips have yet to become widely available in consumer devices.
MSI is reportedly preparing a new version of its Claw 8 handheld using Arc G3 technology. The company already has experience with Intel-powered portable gaming systems through previous Claw models.
Acer is also reportedly developing the Predator Atlas, another handheld expected to use Intel’s Arc G3 platform.
If Intel proceeds with the lower-cost variant, it could give manufacturers another option for building handhelds across different price categories, from performance-focused models to more affordable portable gaming systems.
For now, Intel has not announced the rumored chip or provided details about its specifications, pricing or release schedule.
