The KytyPS5 PlayStation 5 emulator has achieved a significant development milestone by successfully running its first playable 3D games on PC. The latest progress, shared by the Techjunkie Aman account on X, shows the open-source emulator reaching frame rates of up to 30 frames per second in select titles, marking an important step toward functional PS5 emulation.
KytyPS5 is a free, open-source emulator written in C++ and supports Windows and Linux, with experimental compatibility for macOS. Although development remains in its early stages, recent updates have expanded the number of games that can boot and run.
Among the latest breakthroughs, the remake of XIII has become the first 3D PlayStation 5 title to run at a playable state on the emulator. According to the shared footage, the game operates at approximately 20 to 30 FPS while responding to player inputs in real time.
Despite the progress, the gameplay still features noticeable graphical issues, including broken textures, visual artifacts, and rendering errors. Even so, the title remains functional throughout testing.
Another game, TMNT: Wrath of the Mutants, also showed encouraging results. The game runs at nearly 25 FPS and, while it reportedly crashes during its initial launch, it becomes stable after restarting and displays relatively few graphical glitches.
Growing Game Compatibility
KytyPS5 can now boot several 2D games along with a limited selection of 3D titles built using Unreal Engine 4, Unreal Engine 5, Unity, and proprietary game engines.
One notable example is Grand Theft Auto V, which successfully starts and reaches its main menu, although it is not yet playable.
The emulator continues to face major technical challenges, including instability, frequent crashes, inconsistent performance, and graphical rendering problems. Nevertheless, developers continue to release updates that steadily improve compatibility and performance.
Interest in PS5 Emulation Continues to Grow
Development of PlayStation 5 emulation has gained increased attention alongside broader discussions surrounding digital game preservation and platform accessibility.
Another open-source project, SharpEmu, has also made progress by focusing on low-level hardware accuracy and software infrastructure. Together, these community-driven efforts continue to advance PS5 emulation and contribute to the long-term goal of creating a more complete and accurate emulator.
Interest in PS5 emulation has also grown ahead of the anticipated launch of Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5.
Following the latest KytyPS5 progress, some users questioned whether the emulator could run GTA 6 during the first half of 2027. Responding to those expectations, the Techjunkie Aman account urged caution, stating, “Let’s not get our hopes up too high.”
While KytyPS5 has reached an important milestone with its first playable 3D games, the project remains far from delivering a stable, full-speed PlayStation 5 experience. For now, the emulator serves primarily as a proof of concept, with considerable development still required before it can support modern PS5 titles reliably.
