Valve’s Steam Deck appears to be experiencing a slowdown in sales after recent price increases, with new estimates indicating that demand for the handheld gaming PC has fallen significantly since the price increases took effect.
According to an analysis published by Steam Boiling, Steam Deck revenue may have dropped by approximately 72%, driven by a sharp decline in unit sales. Valve has not released official sales figures, meaning the estimates are based on publicly available Steam Store ranking data rather than confirmed company statistics.
Price Increase Linked to Lower Demand
The report suggests the average selling price of the Steam Deck has increased from roughly $540 to $835, representing a 54% increase.
Following the increase, estimated weekly sales reportedly fell from 11,000 to 18,000 units during 2025 to fewer than 3,000 units, a decline of approximately 82%.
While the higher price raises revenue per device, the reduction in overall sales volume appears to have outweighed the benefit, resulting in lower estimated weekly earnings.
Bestseller Ranking Reflects Changing Performance
Steam Boiling based its analysis on Steam’s global bestseller chart, which ranks products by gross revenue rather than units sold.
According to the report, the Steam Deck frequently ranked between fourth and fifth place among Steam’s best-selling products during 2025. Since the price increase, however, the handheld has generally fallen to positions between 10th and 15th, indicating weaker overall performance relative to other products on the platform.
The analysis estimates that weekly Steam Deck revenue has dropped from around $10 million to less than $3 million.
Because Valve does not publish detailed sales data, these figures remain estimates and should not be considered official.
Methodology Based on Steam Rankings
Steam’s bestseller list is calculated based on total revenue rather than sales volume. As a result, premium-priced products require fewer purchases to climb the rankings, while lower-priced games and hardware must sell significantly more units to achieve the same position.
Steam Boiling used changes in the Steam Deck’s ranking, combined with estimated pricing and historical performance, to approximate current sales trends.
Steam Machine Showing Stronger Performance
Despite the reported decline in Steam Deck sales, Valve’s recently introduced Steam Machine appears to be performing more strongly on the platform.
At the time of the analysis, the Steam Machine ranked among the top five best-selling products on Steam, while the Steam Deck had improved slightly to eighth place after climbing several positions compared with the previous week.
The stronger ranking suggests that Valve’s newer hardware is generating higher revenue, despite carrying a substantially higher purchase price.
