WhatsApp Comes to the iPad at Last

By Aayush

Meta released a dedicated WhatsApp app for iPad on Tuesday, 27 May. The download is free on the App Store and runs natively on iPadOS, marking the first time the chat service has been built specifically for Apple’s tablets.

Before this launch, the only way to chat on an iPad was to use a 2023 beta or rely on the WhatsApp Web workaround inside a browser—hardly a seamless option. The company hinted at the arrival of a full iPad version on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, 26 May, and pushed the finished build live the next morning.

A proper tablet app has been one of the community’s longest-running requests. With iPad support now live, WhatsApp rounds out its Apple lineup, joining existing versions for iPhone and macOS.

WhatsApp for iPad Brings Full Mobile Features and Tablet-Exclusive Perks

The new WhatsApp app for iPad isn’t just a basic port—it brings over the key features mobile users already rely on, like voice and video calls, full access to conversations, and the ability to post status updates.

Designed with the iPad’s larger screen in mind, the app supports horizontal viewing and integrates smoothly with iPadOS features. That means you can use tools like Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over to run WhatsApp side-by-side with other apps—perfect for multitasking.

It also includes support for Apple’s Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, making typing and quick responses easier than ever. Just like with other linked devices, all messages sync automatically, so you can switch between your iPad, iPhone, or computer without missing a beat.
