Google has introduced Nano Banana 2, the latest version of its AI image generation system, bringing faster performance, improved text rendering, and expanded creative controls across its AI ecosystem.
The new model is powered by Gemini 3.1 Flash, enabling quicker image creation while incorporating enhanced real-world knowledge and more accurate visual outputs.
Faster Image Creation with Flash Architecture
Nano Banana 2 replaces earlier versions across several Google services, with speed emerging as its primary upgrade. By running on the Flash variant of Gemini, the system reduces generation time while supporting output resolutions ranging from 512 pixels up to 4K.
The model will become the default image generator in the Gemini app, Google Search, Flow—Google’s AI creative platform—and will expand to Google Cloud, developer tools, and advertising services in the coming days.
Subscribers to Google AI Pro and Ultra will still have the option to switch back to the previous Nano Banana Pro model if needed.
Stronger Text Handling and Real-World Context
One of the most notable improvements focuses on text accuracy, an area where image generators have historically struggled. Google says the new version offers more precise text placement, improved translation, and better alignment with user prompts.
Nano Banana 2 can also draw on Gemini’s broader knowledge and live web data, allowing it to generate visuals that reflect current information or specific real-world subjects. The company highlights use cases such as infographics, educational materials, and data visualizations.
Expanded Creative Control
The updated model supports more complex compositions, allowing users to generate scenes with up to five characters and 14 objects in a single workflow. Google says the system also delivers more consistent lighting, textures, and overall prompt adherence compared with earlier versions.
Many of these capabilities build on features introduced in Nano Banana Pro, but the company positions Nano Banana 2 as a refinement that combines advanced creative controls with improved responsiveness.
Wider Availability Across Google Services
Starting immediately, Nano Banana 2 will replace older image models across:
- The Gemini app
- Google Search image generation features
- Flow creative studio
- AI Studio and developer APIs
- Google Cloud and Google Ads
Google says the rollout will continue over the next several days.
As AI-generated visuals become more realistic and widely used, Google is continuing to apply its watermarking and identification systems within Gemini-generated images to help users distinguish synthetic content from real media.
With Nano Banana 2, Google is focusing less on introducing entirely new capabilities and more on improving speed, accuracy, and reliability—key factors as AI-generated imagery moves deeper into everyday tools and professional workflows.
