Google has introduced Google Pics, a new AI-powered image generation and editing tool designed primarily for professional and educational users within the Google Workspace ecosystem.
The browser-based service uses Google’s Nano Banana image-generation technology and goes beyond creating pictures from text prompts. Users can make targeted, object-level edits, modify text inside images and prepare visuals for different formats without having to recreate an entire image.
Google Pics focuses on detailed image editing
Pics allows users to generate several image variations from a text description or start with an existing image. Files can be uploaded directly from a computer, Google Drive or Google Photos.
Once an image is loaded, users can select individual objects and apply changes to specific parts of the picture. This means an element can be modified without altering the rest of the composition.
The tool also includes features for editing or translating text contained within an image. Google says text can be translated into 29 languages while preserving the image’s overall appearance.
Other editing capabilities include cropping images for different aspect ratios and increasing their resolution to 2K or 4K.
The combination of generation and detailed editing makes Pics more closely resemble a creative workspace tool than a simple text-to-image generator.
Google Docs and Slides get direct integration
Google has also integrated Pics directly into Google Docs and Google Slides from launch.
Users can select an image within either application and open the Pics editor as an overlay. This eliminates the need to export an image, edit it in a separate application and then import the finished version back into a document or presentation.
Google Drive integration is also planned and is expected to arrive in the following weeks.
The approach is particularly relevant for people who regularly create presentations, educational materials, reports or other documents that require customized visuals.
Access is limited to paid plans
Google Pics is not currently available to every Google account.
The service initially launched for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers, as well as most paid Workspace business customers. Eligible Workspace plans include Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus.
Users on free Google accounts and customers subscribed to Workspace Business Starter do not currently have access.
The limited rollout suggests Google is positioning Pics as a productivity and professional-creation tool rather than as another broadly available consumer AI feature.
With Nano Banana handling image generation and object-level editing available directly inside Google’s productivity applications, Pics gives Workspace users a way to create and modify visuals without leaving the company’s ecosystem.
