Apple’s new iPhone Air MagSafe Battery may only work with the iPhone Air itself, but its USB-C port doubles as an accessory charger, offering added versatility.
As spotted by 9to5Mac’s Zac Hall, Apple’s product page notes that you can:
“Charge smaller accessories via USB-C.”
What Can It Charge?
According to Apple, the battery’s USB-C port supports up to 4.5W of output using USB Power Delivery. That means you can top up:
- AirPods charging cases
- Apple Watch
- Other small USB-C gadgets (even something like a USB-powered fan)
This behavior mirrors the USB-C ports on the latest iPhones, which also support charging accessories directly.
A First for MagSafe Batteries
Apple’s original MagSafe Battery Pack—which relied on a Lightning connector—couldn’t charge accessories at all. This makes the Air version the first MagSafe battery to double as a mini power bank for more than just your phone.
The iPhone Air MagSafe Battery is available to order now for $99 in the U.S.
