Microsoft appears to be developing a new battery widget for Windows 11 that could make it easier to monitor the remaining power of a PC and its connected wireless accessories from a single location.
The feature was spotted in recent Windows 11 preview builds after references to the widget were discovered on Discord. While the feature is not operational yet, related strings and visual assets are already included in the operating system, providing an early look at how Microsoft’s implementation could work.
The battery widget is expected to appear in the Windows 11 Widgets Board and could also be available on the lock screen. This would allow users to check battery levels without necessarily opening the desktop or navigating through system settings.
Battery Information in One Place
Based on the resources found in the preview builds, the widget will use a simple vertical layout. The PC’s own battery status will appear at the top, followed by compatible wireless devices connected to the system.
Each listed device will display an identifying icon, its name and the current battery percentage. The interface is also expected to indicate when an accessory is charging. It can reportedly display information about Energy Saver as well.
Microsoft appears to be preparing both light and dark versions of the widget, allowing it to follow the appearance selected for Windows 11.
The feature could be particularly useful for people who regularly use wireless keyboards, mice, headphones and other Bluetooth accessories with their computers. Instead of checking each device individually, users would have a single view of their available battery information.
Battery widgets are not a new concept. Android and Apple’s iPhone software have offered similar functionality for years, allowing users to monitor the battery levels of connected accessories alongside the phone itself.
Windows 11 has traditionally offered fewer convenient options for viewing accessory battery levels in one place. Microsoft’s upcoming widget could bring the operating system closer to the experience already available on competing platforms.
The addition could also give the Windows 11 Widgets Board a more practical purpose. Microsoft introduced the Widgets Board in 2021, but its usefulness has been limited by the relatively small selection of widgets that provide information users regularly need.
Some Microsoft services and applications have offered useful widgets, including Phone Link, OneDrive and Weather. However, system-focused tools could potentially make the feature much more valuable.
