Microsoft has rolled out a new update for the Windows 11 Photos app to Insider users, alongside Build 27954. The refreshed version (2025.11090.25001.0) introduces a standout feature: the ability to organize images using on-device intelligence automatically.
Photos can self-categorize all our photographs with the help of AI
The app can now recognize the content of pictures and sort them into categories without manual input. At this stage, it supports four groups: screenshots, tickets/receipts, ID documents, and notes.
One of the key advantages is its ability to work across languages. For example, a passport written in French can still be correctly classified as an identification document, even if the system language is Spanish. These categories can also be searched directly, giving users a quicker way to locate files.
Exclusive to Copilot+ PCs
As with other features that rely on advanced local processing, auto-categorization is available only on Copilot+ PCs. That includes the latest devices powered by Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm chips with built-in NPUs, which handle the workload needed for features like this.
The update also expands the availability of Super Resolution—a tool that enhances photo quality—across all Copilot+ PCs. After updating Photos, users will be prompted to download a model package before activating the feature.
