Social media platform X experienced another widespread outage on Friday evening, marking the second disruption in less than four days. Thousands of users in India and several other countries reported difficulties accessing the platform, with complaints surfacing shortly after 8 pm.

According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, reports of service issues rose steadily through the evening, peaking at more than 4,500 complaints around 8:50 pm. Users cited problems including failed timeline loads, difficulty posting content, and intermittent access to the website and app.

The company has not released any official explanation for the disruption, and it remains unclear whether the outage was caused by technical failures, infrastructure issues, or maintenance-related problems.

The latest incident comes at a time when X owner Elon Musk has been drawing attention to upcoming changes aimed at improving transparency on the platform. Earlier this week, Musk announced plans to make X’s recommendation and advertising algorithms open source. According to his statement, the full codebase used to determine which organic and sponsored posts are shown to users will be published publicly and updated on a regular basis.

Musk said the first release of the algorithmic code would take place within a week, followed by updates every four weeks, each accompanied by detailed developer notes explaining what had changed and why.

While the timing of the outages and the planned transparency initiative may be coincidental, repeated service disruptions have raised concerns among users about the platform’s stability. With no official response yet from X regarding Friday’s outage, users are left waiting for clarity on both the cause of the downtime and whether further disruptions could follow.
