Xiaomi is preparing to launch its next-generation Redmi K100 lineup in China, and early reports suggest the new devices could cost significantly more than previous models.
According to industry estimates, the base Redmi K100 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage may be priced around 4,000 yuan, a notable jump from the 2,599 yuan launch price of its predecessor. The increase reflects a broader trend of rising costs across the smartphone industry.
Performance Remains a Key Focus
Despite the higher pricing, the Redmi K100 is expected to deliver strong performance. The device is rumored to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage in its base configuration.
At the top of the lineup, the Redmi K100 Pro Max is expected to offer even more advanced specifications. Reports point to a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, alongside a 200 MP main camera and additional ultrawide and telephoto sensors. Improvements in audio and haptic feedback are also anticipated.
Rising Costs Linked to Component Shortages
The price increase is largely due to rising component costs, particularly memory. A global shortage of RAM, driven in part by growing demand for artificial intelligence technologies, has pushed up production expenses across the industry.
As a result, the Redmi K100 series may shift away from its traditional position in the upper mid-range segment, moving closer to premium devices such as the Galaxy S26.
The pricing of the Pro Max variant is expected to approach that of Xiaomi’s own flagship lineup, raising questions about product differentiation within the company’s portfolio.
For international markets, the devices are expected to be rebranded under Xiaomi’s POCO lineup. The standard model may launch globally as the POCO F9 Pro, while the Pro Max version could be marketed as the POCO F9 Ultra.
The Redmi K100 series is expected to debut in China in October. While official specifications and pricing have yet to be confirmed, the lineup is likely to reflect both the growing demand for high-performance smartphones and the increasing costs of advanced components.
