Google Brings Gemini-Powered AI Photo Editing to Android Users

By Aayush

Google is rolling out a new AI photo editing tool in Google Photos that lets Android users edit images by simply describing what they want. Powered by Gemini, the feature allows people to type or speak natural language prompts—like “brighten the lighting” or “remove the person in the background”—to make changes without needing to know which editing tools to use.

The capability first launched on the Pixel 10 in the U.S. earlier this year, but it’s now expanding to a wider base of Android users.

To get started, tap the “Help me edit” button in the photo editor, then either describe your request or choose from AI-generated suggestions. For quick improvements, you can even tell Gemini to “make it better.”

The tool supports common edits such as exposure and color adjustments, along with advanced changes like object removal, image restoration, or even adding creative, fantastical elements to photos. Users can also refine their edits through follow-up prompts, making the process more interactive and customizable.

The feature is currently available in English for U.S. users aged 18 and up. Alongside the rollout, Google also confirmed that C2PA Content Credentials are coming to Google Photos on Android. This system tags images to show when they’ve been created or modified with AI, adding an extra layer of transparency.
