Microsoft has released its July 2026 Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 11, delivering one of the largest security updates of the year. The mandatory release addresses 570 security vulnerabilities across Microsoft’s software portfolio, including three zero-day vulnerabilities, two of which were already being exploited before the fixes became available.
Alongside the extensive security improvements, the updates include stability enhancements, bug fixes and several features that were previously introduced through June’s optional preview updates.
New Updates for Supported Windows 11 Versions
The latest Patch Tuesday rollout includes two cumulative updates for supported Windows 11 releases:
- KB5101650 for Windows 11 version 25H2 and 24H2, updating systems to builds 26200.8875 and 26100.8875, respectively.
- KB5099414 for Windows 11 version 23H2, bringing the operating system to build 22631.7376.
As with every Patch Tuesday release, the updates are mandatory and will be installed automatically through Windows Update unless users temporarily defer installation.
Security Remains the Primary Focus
The July release is primarily aimed at strengthening security across Microsoft’s ecosystem. In total, the company has resolved 570 vulnerabilities affecting Windows, Microsoft Office, Azure, Hyper-V, Microsoft Edge, Visual Studio and several other products.
Among the vulnerabilities addressed are three zero day security flaws, with Microsoft confirming that two had already been actively exploited before patches were released. Security experts generally recommend installing updates addressing actively exploited vulnerabilities as quickly as possible to reduce exposure to attacks.
Microsoft has also highlighted its growing use of artificial intelligence to assist security researchers in identifying and resolving vulnerabilities more efficiently. While AI contributes to the discovery process, the company says human experts continue to oversee validation and deployment of security fixes.
Secure Boot Receives Certificate Updates
One of the notable system improvements involves Secure Boot. Microsoft has continued the rollout of updated Secure Boot certificates designed to replace certificates approaching expiration.
The gradual deployment is intended to ensure devices remain compatible with Secure Boot protections without requiring manual intervention from users.
Office Compatibility Issue Resolved
The update also fixes a compatibility issue introduced after June’s cumulative update that affected applications using OLE Automation.
The bug prevented certain third-party software from opening Microsoft Office documents or launching Office applications correctly. The issue had affected a number of enterprise and productivity workflows and has now been resolved.
Keyboard Shortcut Reliability Improved
Microsoft has made adjustments to the handling of keyboard shortcut registration within Windows 11.
The improvements address a rare issue that caused some built-in Windows keyboard shortcuts to stop responding correctly under specific conditions.
AI Components Updated on Copilot+ PCs
Devices compatible with Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC platform also receive updated AI system components.
The following modules have been upgraded to version 1.2605.856.0:
- Image Search
- Content Extraction
- Semantic Analysis
- Settings Model
These updates improve the underlying AI infrastructure used by various Windows 11 intelligent features.
Windows Update Reliability Enhanced
Microsoft has also updated the Servicing Stack, the component responsible for installing future Windows updates.
The latest servicing improvements are intended to increase installation reliability and reduce update failures, particularly on enterprise systems and devices with more complex configurations.
Unlike some previous Patch Tuesday releases, Microsoft has not listed any known issues associated with the July 2026 updates at the time of publication.
Given the unusually high number of vulnerabilities resolved, particularly the actively exploited zero day flaws, the latest cumulative updates represent one of the most significant security releases for Windows 11 this year.
While the release includes several usability improvements and minor feature updates, its primary importance lies in strengthening system security. Users running supported versions of Windows 11 are advised to install the updates promptly to ensure their devices remain protected against recently disclosed threats.
