Sony has released a new PlayStation 5 system software update that gives players a new way to discover what is popular across the platform.

The update adds a Community Activity widget to the PS5 Welcome Hub, featuring a weekly list of the 10 most popular games in each player’s country or region. It also highlights trending games and multiplayer modes.

Sony has not explained exactly how the rankings are calculated. The company has not confirmed whether factors such as playtime, concurrent players, sales or downloads are used. Instead, it simply describes the feature as a way to discover games with large communities.

PS5 Welcome Hub Gets a New Community Activity Widget

The new widget offers two main views.

Current Trends highlights 10 games or multiplayer modes that are currently attracting attention. Sony says the section can help players keep track of new releases and fresh content.

The Top 10 section focuses on the 10 most popular games from the previous week within the user’s country or region.

The feature could make the Welcome Hub a more useful destination for players looking for something new to play, particularly when they want to see which multiplayer communities are currently active.

PS5 Pro Gets an Automatic PSSR Upgrade

The update also introduces a change for PS5 Pro owners using Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology.

The Enhanced PSSR Image Quality option is now enabled automatically after installing the system update. Sony says this allows the enhanced version of PSSR to be used even in games that previously supported only the older implementation.

The company says the change should provide a sharper and clearer image in supported situations. PS5 Pro owners who prefer to turn the feature off can find the option under:

Settings > Display and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Picture Quality

Voice Chats Now Show Who Is Speaking

Sony has also added a small but useful improvement to PS5 voice chats.

Players can now display an indicator showing which person is currently speaking during a voice conversation.

The feature can be enabled through the voice chat card in the Control Center by selecting More > Show Who’s Speaking and turning on Display Names. Users can also choose where the indicator appears on the screen.

New Bluetooth Option for Specific Regions

Sony has made another change for certain PS5 and PS5 Pro systems in selected countries and regions.

Under Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings, users can now select Turn Off Bluetooth.

When Bluetooth is disabled, the console will not enter sleep mode and HDMI Device Link will also stop functioning.

Sony says the feature is intended for environments such as esports arenas, where controller connections need to be managed in a controlled setting. The company recommends that regular users do not use the option for other purposes.

The update also includes the usual performance and system stability improvements.

PS4 Receives a Smaller Update

The PS5 was not the only PlayStation console updated this week.

Sony also released new system software for PS4, although the older console received a much smaller update. The company says the release focuses on improving overall system stability and performance without introducing major new features.

The PS5 update arrives shortly after the release of Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac Games’ latest PlayStation title starring Logan.
