Meta has started testing a new premium tier for its messaging platform, introducing WhatsApp Plus to a limited group of users. The feature is currently being rolled out in phases as part of a controlled release to gather feedback and assess performance.

According to WABetaInfo, the subscription is optional and does not affect access to the app’s core messaging features, which will remain free for all users.

The new plan is being tested in select markets with regional pricing. In parts of Europe, WhatsApp Plus costs €2.49 per month, while users in Mexico can subscribe for approximately $29 MXN per month.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled. Users who wish to avoid the next billing cycle must cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.

At this stage, the feature is accessible only to a limited number of beta users, and there is no confirmed timeline for a global release.

Focus on Personalisation and Productivity

WhatsApp Plus introduces a range of enhancements designed to improve customization and usability. One of the most notable changes is an increased limit on pinned chats. Subscribers can pin up to 20 conversations at the top of their chat list, compared to the current limit of three.

The plan also includes exclusive visual and functional features, such as animated sticker packs, new themes, custom app icons, and unique notification sounds. Additional settings allow users to apply personalized configurations across multiple chats simultaneously.

Early Testing Phase

As the feature remains in development, Meta may adjust or expand the available tools before a full release. The company is expected to use feedback from early adopters to refine the subscription offering.

The move reflects Meta’s broader strategy to diversify its services while maintaining free access to core communication features on WhatsApp.
