In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, the operating system market remains a battleground. The latest report from Statcounter in March 2024 provides us with an updated perspective on this dynamic scenario.
Notably, there’s been a fluctuation in the market share of Windows 11. It has experienced a decline of 1.46 points, now standing at 26.72%.
Windows 11 fails to take share from Windows 10
Despite Microsoft’s efforts to promote its latest operating system through “invitations to update” for devices not managed with Windows 10, Windows 11 has struggled to expand its market presence. Conversely, Windows 10 has experienced a resurgence, regaining some of its lost audience and reaching a market share of over 69%.
Older versions of Windows, such as Windows 7, 8.1, and 8, despite being “unsupported,” still maintain significant market share. Even Windows XP, which was abandoned by primary browsers years ago, still has a sizable audience tracked by Statcounter.
As usual, these data tend to fluctuate. It remains to be seen whether Microsoft can sustain the growth of Windows 11 and increase its relevance. Additionally, there’s increasing discussion about the successor to Windows 11, which has yet to surpass a 30% market share.
