Valve’s long-rumoured Steam Machine may be nearing release after a welcome tutorial for the device surfaced within Steam’s backend, fueling fresh speculation about an imminent launch announcement.
New evidence suggesting that Valve is preparing to unveil its upcoming Steam Machine emerged over the weekend after a welcome tour for the device was reportedly discovered in Steam’s backend systems.
The leak, shared by industry insider Brad Lynch on X, revealed several screens from what appears to be the Steam Machine’s introductory setup experience. Similar to onboarding tutorials found on the Steam Deck and various virtual reality headsets, the content is presented as an interactive minigame designed to guide users through the hardware’s features during initial setup.

Although Valve has yet to officially comment on the authenticity of the leaked material, the discovery has sparked widespread discussion within the gaming community. The appearance of onboarding content is being viewed as a strong indication that development is entering its final stages.
Lynch noted that a comparable welcome tour for the Steam Controller was added to Steam’s systems only weeks before that product’s official release. The timing has led many observers to believe that Valve could soon reveal a launch date, pricing details, and additional information about the new hardware.
Industry attention is now turning toward the upcoming wave of gaming presentations often referred to as “E3 week.” Major events, including PlayStation’s State of Play, the Xbox Games Showcase, and Summer Game Fest, are expected to deliver announcements and previews for games and hardware arriving in the latter half of 2026. These showcases could provide Valve with a high-profile platform to formally introduce the Steam Machine.
Delays Linked to Component Shortages
Originally scheduled to launch during the first quarter of 2026, the Steam Machine has reportedly faced delays due to ongoing supply chain challenges affecting the technology sector. Rising costs for memory modules and other critical components have placed additional pressure on hardware manufacturers worldwide.
Valve has remained largely silent regarding the project’s status, but recent pricing adjustments for the Steam Deck have raised concerns among consumers about the eventual cost of the Steam Machine. Analysts believe the device may enter the market at a premium price point, potentially impacting its commercial performance.
Two Major Valve Devices Still Await Release
The Steam Machine was one of three major products announced by Valve in November 2025. Since then, only the new Steam Controller has reached consumers. The Steam Machine and the company’s Steam Frame virtual reality headset remain unavailable, with no official release timelines disclosed.
Despite the delays, the leaked welcome tour has renewed confidence that Valve is preparing to move forward with its hardware plans. Until an official announcement is made, however, key details regarding specifications, availability, and pricing remain under wraps.
For now, the leaked onboarding experience serves as the strongest sign yet that the long-awaited Steam Machine could finally be approaching launch.
